PAWN SHOP to be Published by Z2 Comics in the Fall

I’m so pleased to say that Pawn Shop, by me and Sean Von Gorman, is being published by Z2 Comics this fall, as announced by Publishers Weekly earlier today.

The book is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and at your local book and comic stores. If you were a Kickstarter backer or purchased one of the self-published editions from us at some point, your support means the world! If you enjoyed it, we’d love if you could continue spreading the word and get your local shops to order a copy or just tell a friend!

Pawn Shop Script Book Now Available

Way back during the Pawn Shop Kickstarter campaign, we revealed the Pawn Shop Script Book as a stretch reward. It’s a collection of all my hand-written notes, the original rough draft, and the final typed draft of the entire graphic novel. It’s meant to show off the process of making a comic from conception to final product. The reward has gone out to the Kickstarter backers, but I’ve just listed it in my store for anyone that missed out on the campaign.

It’s $5 for a 222-page PDF, and you can buy it here. Here’s a sample of what you’ll get:

Pawn Shop Commentary – Part 1

The kind folks over at one of my favorite comic book sites,  Talking Comics, have been kind enough to do a series of videos going in-depth behind the scenes of Pawn Shop as a sort of commentary track. In the first installment we talked about Chapters 1 and 2, where certain ideas and themes got their start, and why being an “aspiring” writer is BS.

You can check out the video here:

The next installment we’ll have Sean on as well to talk about the art side of things! And again, huge thanks to Bobby Shortle and the rest of the Talking Comics team for being such huge proponents of our little book. It means a lot to us.

Don’t forget you can get Pawn Shop on Comixology in installments or the full OGN at my store.

Pawn Shop Now Available on Comixology

I’m pleased to announce that Pawn Shop is getting a digital release — starting today — courtesy of the fine folks at comiXology. We’ll be serializing the book into four installments — one issue per chapter — and releasing one issue a week at 99 cents each. That’s just $4 for the whole book digitally!

You can buy issue #1 here: http://cmxl.gy/OfvDDs

A huge thanks to John D. Roberts and Chip Mosher and the whole team over at comiXology for helping to make this happen. Here’s the full press release:

Pawn Shop Love

PScoverTest5It’s been a long time coming, but the graphic novel that Sean Von Gorman and I Kickstarted back in 2012 is finally done and about to go off to the printer’s. Kickstarter backers have received their digital copies (if you haven’t, there’s an update for backers-only on the KS project with a link to download) and some members of the press have gotten their review editions.

I’m also pleased to say that the print edition will feature a foreword by die-hard New Yorker, class act, and writer extraordinaire, Adam P. Knave.

If you happened to miss the Kickstarter, you can currently pre-order the book from my online store and it will ship after the Kickstarter folks receive their copies.

Much to my delight, response has been quite flattering so far. Thank you all. I wanted to post some of the love we’ve received, if only to remind myself that the two years it took to get this book out the door was worth it. Here’s what some awesome people are saying:

Pawn Shop: Meet Jen

It’s been a while since I’ve updated on Pawn Shop, the graphic novel I Kickstarted with Sean Von Gorman last summer. We’re working hard with a projected release of Spring ’13. Expect to start seeing regular art updates from here on out. I’m really excited (and nervous) about this book. This one hurt to get out.

Anyway, here’s an early look at Sean’s sketches one of our four main protagonists, a teenager named Jen:

The Pawn Shop Script Book

I’m ecstatic to report that we’re nearly 100% funded in our Pawn Shop Kickstarter campaign — at the time of this writing just over $400 to go — and so we’re making the final push to make sure that happens this week, so we can start shelling out some awesome stretch goals! As incentive to get everyone to continue sharing our project, pledging, and perhaps even upping their pledges, we’re offering a free digital download of the Pawn Shop Script Book to all backers $10+ — but only if we’re fully funded by Friday, August 10.

The Script Book will include my handwritten notes and rough drafts along with the final typed draft to compare it to, in addition to some of Sean’s sketches and layouts. The idea is to paint a full picture of the creative process and the evolution of the Pawn Shop story. Like so:

Check out the post on Kickstarter for more examples of what you’ll be seeing in the book. Thanks to everyone for their support so far, and we hope you’ll keep up the awesome support!

80% and Counting

Sean and I would like to offer a very sincere thank you to everyone that’s pledged and shared the PAWN SHOP Kickstarter campaign thus far. We’re happy to say that in just nearly 8 days, we’re 80% funded with under $1500 left to go. We’ll be announcing some new reward tiers soon, along with stretch goals should we reach our funding early.

We hope that you’ll continue to spread the word to any comic book or New York City fans that you might know and help us bring Pawn Shop to the masses.
